Goal
During the 2022-2023 academic year, school districts will focus on diversifying the teacher workforce by recruiting students and paraprofessionals into the teaching profession and retaining teachers of color. This will be accomplished through the subgoals stated below.
Subgoals
The school district will recruit potential educators from the high school student population that mirror the racial and ethnic population of the students attending the district.
The school district will track data on a yearly basis, including race and ethnicity, of the Grow Your Own students from entry into the program to third year of teaching within the district.
The school district will identify the university educator preparation program partnership for the Grow Your Own Program.
The school district will identify how school counselors are actively promoting and presenting the teaching profession as a viable career option for racially and ethnically diverse students.
The school district will develop support systems for participating students in selecting an educator preparation program, through the hiring process for a first year teaching position and mentoring through the third year of teaching.
